( About YazBerry | Rag Dolls 2 Love | FAQs | Custom Orders )
YazBerry has been brewing in the mind of Designer and Founder Virginia E. Berry for many years. As a child, in Northfield, MN, Virginia's favorite game was to play dress up with the collection of thrift shop clothing at the neighbor's house. Many extravagant costumes were created out of the old clothing. Virginia is also notoriously known for her penchant for Halloween costumes; she has created numerous costumes over the years. YazBerry is fueled by crucial skills learned in many arenas; Virginia was taught to sew by her Mother and her Grandmother. Many weekends were spent at Grandma's playing with the scrap fabric she always has on hand, creating small quilt blocks and doll clothing. Virginia's garment designing talents and pattern making skills were honed while working at the Skidmore College Theater Costume Shop with Patty Pawliczak.
Patty would tell Virginia her idea for a costume, Virginia would make a sample of what Patty had in mind and the costumes would materialize from there. Virginia created a multitude of costumes while at Skidmore. She also fashioned period hairstyles.
YazBerry is further influenced by Virginia's time at Skidmore College. Virginia created designs for the Benefaction Fashion Show in 2002 and in 2004.In the 2002 show, Virginia experimented with mixed media, using everything from magazine clippings, to spray paint to artificial plants. Her line for this show took on a very whimsical and sculptural tone; one of the pieces was actually built on a boning bustle Virginia constructed, and stood out four feet behind the model. In the 2004 show, Virginia worked with quite a bit of leather. One of the bodices is fashioned to emulate the veins of a leaf. All of the pieces included studies on volume created through the use of fabric. YazBerry strives to be unique, flattering to all shapes and sizes, fun to wear and amazing to look at and touch! YazBerry is for Women and Men that enjoy amazing looking clothing and decor items made from rich colors and intricate details- both subtle and bold.
